Hey Scotty If you were accepting new customers. I live in the Houston area (on 290) I completely understand if someone with your fame doesn’t want to waste your time on a blue collar welder like me. However your opinion on buying a cheap used suv would be extremely appreciated. No is okay but any response is awesome.
god bless
Well Scotty moved to Clarksville, Tennessee.
Have you considered a Rav4?
Hey, I am in awe of what "blue collar welders" are able to do and wish it was a skill I had pursued when I was younger!
As mountainmanjoe indicates, Scotty's main recommendation would be for a Toyota such as a RAV4. Honda would also be on the recommended list. Of course any contenders should be checked out by a mechanic BEFORE purchase.
In another thread here, Scotty made a recommendation for a mechanic in Houston:

CX-5's are great at handling, and are made in Japan (for highest percentage of quality workmanship).
The model started in 2013, so not super old, and is Mazda's Coca-Cola (outsells all other models combined, and makes the majority of the company's revenue), and due to brand, will probably go for cheaper than RAV4/CR-V for those earlier models with the 2.0 L engine.
I like the fuel economy of the 2.0 L naturally aspirated Skyactiv engine (newer are 2.5 L's with cylinder deactivation unfortunately, some are turbo), although the 2.0 L does lack power in comparison to the competition (kinda makes it more safe though).
Noticeably less on cargo space compared to RAV4/CR-V, but very manageable for my family with room to spare.
You can find manual transmission on models 2017 and earlier, though quite rare (in my region up in Canada).
They use simple, reliable technology, with nothing too fancy in regards to electronics/tech, which adds to their reliability.
Best value in my opinion.

Check out the Used Car Buying Guide linked below.
What is your price range?
Yes buy a Rav 4 if you don't mind being squeezed into a small car, and don't mind sitting shoulder to shoulder.
Please check the date of the question before answering. Thanks.
