Dear community..
I am considering buying either a Camry or an Accord for daily use. I know both of these cars are highly regarded around here, but I also want something with a bit of sportiness, so I’m leaning towards a V6 model.
For the Camry, I’m interested in the 2011 (XV40) or 2014 (XV50) models, and I see both use the 3.5L 2GR-FE engine. How reliable is that engine?
As for the Accord, I really love the Coupe body style, imt thinking on a 2013 model. I see it uses the 3.5L J35Yx engine—same question: How does that will do in the long run?
Thanks
Any inherent issues with those models can be found in seconds via a simple internet search. However, since you're looking at cars over a decade old the most important consideration is their current condition which can only be determined by a good mechanic before purchase.
@chucktobias Thanks for the reply Chuck, which of these you like the most? and why would you pick it over the other?
Actually none of the above. My preference is for pre-2000 vehicles so not really applicable. I'd say whichever you like best that has no serious inherent problems and is in verified good condition.
How reliable is that engine?
You can read all the gory 2GR-FE details here: https://www.motorreviewer.com/engine.php?engine_id=129
whatever you do don't get 4 cylinder Camry of that generation.
J35Yx: https://www.motorreviewer.com/engine.php?engine_id=166
Since they're over a decade old now, the primary factor affecting the reliability of any engine is how well they were maintained, not how good they were 17 years ago.
@imperator Thanks for the links Joe, def gonna check the info, and also have a mecanic to ensure they were well maintained
