Can a 2017 Buick Lacrosse Tow more

I am interested in a 2017 Buick Lacrosse with the 3.6 V6 and 8 speed Aisin transmission.

The owners manual says it can only tow 1000 pounds which surprised me as that is the same capacity as my little Chevy cruze. I did some research and US tow ratings for smaller vehicles tend to be understated as the same vehicles in europe will have a rating 2-3 times higher.

Can the car reasonably tow more than this?

Also, what are your thoughts on the new lacrosse in general, would it hold up over time?

Clarification: How many years and miles do you need to get out of it?

The 2017-2019 Buick LaCrosse 3.6L V6 has cylinder deactivation in that engine, and long term can potentially wear out/damage the engine. Due to poor GM quality in general, some of those cylinder deactivation systems can still malfunction even if disabled (can only be disabled via aftermarket only).  Aside from that, expect random electrical issues as it ages.  If this is a car you need for the long haul, I would look at other vehicles.
