Honda Civic Hatchback 2018 Fuel Economy

Hi Scotty,

I recently bought a 2018 Honda Civic Hatchback with the 1.5 Turbo engine. I am the second owner of this vehicle, and it currently has approximately 38,000 Kms. I live in Israel, and the Hondas we get here are made in the U.K.

My question is, is it normal for this car to have a fuel consumption of 9.0 - 9.5 Kms/L? From what I heard these cars do an average of 13.0 - 15.0 Kms/L. I don’t have much fun with it and barely turn the AC on. I took it to the dealership and they told me the car is in mint condition, but replaced the air and oil filters and did an oil change just to be on the safe side. What can be the cause of this issue from your experience?

What's your driving conditions? City driving or highway? what's the highway fuel consumption?

I feel that the car is consuming more on the highway than it does in the city. Since the date of the OP, i tried to drive the car as i should without giving the gas consumption much thought i.e turning the A/C on and pressing the gas pedal as i normally would, and the fuel consumption got even worse: 8 - 9 Kms/L = 12.5 - 11.0 L/100Km. What things do I need to check please? I'm honestly considering selling this car because of how much it is harming my budget.

The re-fill light always turns on at 310 - 330 Kms per trip.

Replace the air filter. Clean the MAF sensor and throttle body. What's the LTFT on your car?
