How do you know when it is time to replace a clutch?

I’ve got a manual car bought used originally with 41,000 miles. I now have 65,000 miles. Someone suggested I get a clutch replaced as a preventative measure every 70,000 and a mechanic told me to just wait until the clutch slips.

This is the first manual car I’ve had and am confused by the conflicting messages I’ve received.

I’ve researched on YouTube and heard that if I am going highway speeds, the rpm revs up, but I don’t accelerate as expected, then that would be a sign.

Are there any other telltale signs or a sort of “milage” benchmark when I should replace a clutch?

What I’m driving is a 2017 Ford Mustang but I assume this question should be relevant to any other manual cars.

when it stops clutching. You'll get a feel for it with more experience and you'll know when it's worn out. If you get really good at shifting you may never wear it out.

Wait until it slips.
