Can't put standard transmission car into gear

Hey, I'm the owner of a 2010 hyundai accent M/T, I drove in a heavy rain and after that I cannot put the car into gear when the engine is running. A mechanic said that the clutch sucked water and it broke but I do not believe it completely. Any ideas of what could be?

What is the mileage?

Yep, if you can put it in the gear when off, and not while it's running, then the clutch is kaput. Not going thru water, but I had a clutch break from a defect on my 87 t-bird turbo coupe. Wouldn't go into gear running, but could when it was turned off.

if you can put in gears while the engine is off, then the clutch is shot.

  • Not being able to put it in gear can be the sign of a bad clutch.

Make sure you get a complete clutch package - clutch disc, pressure plate, throwout bearing and pilot bearing.  Also have your clutch slave cylinder checked for proper operation.
