Car Almost Flooded in Hurricane. What should I do next?

  • Hello, I drive a 2018 Rav4 LE with about 66,000 miles on it (automatic transmission). Recently hurricane Ian passed and, due to uneven ground, the front of my car was spared from being underwater. Checked oil and air intake, and it was free of water. The car runs and drives fine but water got into the interior and was also in the exhaust when I initially started it. Should I take it to a mechanic? And if so, what should I ask for?

From your description, the main concern is the interior. You need to get the interior clean and dry ASAP.
If it was my car, I would take out the seats and steam clean the carpets. If the seats got wet, do them too. (If you have time and motivation, you can take the carpet out and clean underneath too, though that’s a big job. )

look up Chrisfix YouTube channel for info on deep cleaning a car.

it may seem fine now. But electrical nightmares await. Have an insurance adjuster assess it.

If you live in a hurricane area and don't have insurance ... what are you doing?
