Car Auxiliary Coolant Pump cuts in and out

Hi Scotty,

I have a 2012 Infiniti M35h with now 86k.  It's a hybrid.  When the car goes into EV mode, driving or at a stop, the Aux cooling pump is suppose to circulate the coolant since the engine turns off to keep the heat going.  I have replaced my coolant at 75k and learned to get all the air out.  Was an endeavor to learn to get right but finally did.  Once in the spring and now in the winter the heat stopped working.  Thought more air got in, or worse a blown head gasket, and so did the air bleeding process again.  Heat worked but then stopped the next day.  Checked the auxiliary pump and noticed it wasn't coming on.  I would tap with my hand and then could hear and feel it come on.   At random it would still stop working.  Would have to stop my car, plug in seat belt so car stays in EV mode when I open my door, pop hood, reach down tap a few times and then would come on for the rest of the day.  In the morning would have to repeat the process.

Finally it stopped working altogether.  I then took the bottom panel off, like for oil changes.  Left the car in EV mode and as I was pulling the wire harness off, the pump turned on!  Ok fixed again.  I clipped it back on and then the next morning it would not work.  I now noticed that if I have the harness partially on, slightly below where it needs to be clipped it by a few millimeters, the pump seems to work just fine.  It seems like a tight fit still around the pump socket the harness plugs into. Just odd that it does that.

Is there something more I can do so as to have better electrical conductivity/connection.  I hear there is copper particle grease that might work but don't want to use it if it's not going to work and then have to clean it out of the socket and cable head.  Would using copper strands of wire, like with your batter terminal trick, work?  Either by wrapping around the prongs or putting strands inside the harness clip?.  If I have to leave it unclipped, I'm perfectly fine with it, Just want the heat when the ICE turns off.  I thought may shaving the thickness of the connector down a bit might be a solution but then thought it doesn't make sense since it works with the connector partially unclipped.  My last resort is to hard wire it at some point if needed.

Thanks for all you do. I have learned so much

Spray the connections with electrical cleaner, let it dry then use dialectric grease on the connections.

Oh My goodness no! that's such a bad idea.

Do not ever shove copper grease or strands into a connector. You're going to end up with a fire on your hands.

Just use a terminal strip.
