So I have a 2008 Ford escape 140,000 miles. Today as I was driving I lost power only the engine was revving. Now everytime I start the car the gears work perfect, but only for about 30 seconds then they don't work. All I have to do is wait a few seconds and turn the car back on and the gears work again but then go out after 30 seconds. Transmission fluid is not low nor over and looks clear . I'm stuck on this one and am hoping you could help.
Pull codes and let's hope it has some... just speculation in general... a bad trans pump.
Everyone is telling me it's the trans filter that I need a new transmission.only one code pulled up and it was o2 sensor it was replaced same problem
Make sure whoever pulls the codes uses a reader that reads ALL codes as all readers don't read all trans codes. I'd use forscan software (Ford specific and free).
Now if I understand you correctly, mechs have looked at your trans filter and found metal...if so, I agree with them that it's time for trans rebuild.
