Hey Scotty, I got a 98 Grand Marquis 155k miles .It recently shut down on me & won’t start. Just replaced battery a few weeks back . Can't figure it out.
Diag for that condition is 3 things. Does it have power, fuel pressure, and spark? Just like some else said, check fuel pressure. Check that the battery is putting out 12.6 volts. Check spark plugs to see if they are sparking.

what does it do?

Assuming it cranks, won't start...Common at that mileage is fuel pump failure.
Quick check...on the driver side of engine, under the plastic cover, on the fuel rail, there is a schrader valve (looks like a tire valve)...remove the cap, use a cloth wrapped around a small screwdriver or similar (to prevent getting sprayed with pressurized gasoline) and gently depress the valve core (it looks just like a tire valve core)....if no gasoline is there...it's likely the fuel pump.
On the driver side inner fender, there is a fuel pump relay...have someone turn the key on while you touch the relay, you should feel it click if it is working.(you may be able to hear it if in a quiet area).
If you use a scan tool and get PO232 its the pump.
The gas tank is vertical and it's tedious to change the pump. (you only need to change the actual pump and not the whole "fuel pump module assembly")...but the entire module has to be removed from tank.
