I've seen ads on Cat Cleaners, the kind you pour into the gas tank, and wondered if they really work or it's just a waste of time? I do a lot of in-town driving and short trips for work..
If your catalyst is dirty, then you have other problems to worry about. Catalysts are "self-cleaning" as they use extreme heat to operate properly.
Tail pipe looks fairly clean, I saw an ad for a Cat cleaner and just wonder if it was real or even needed...

I answered your question, so I'm not sure why you downvoted. I said catalysts are self-cleaning, so you don't need to use that "cataclean" stuff in the first place. If your catalyst is getting clogged up or becoming inefficient, then there is an issue with the engine such as oil burning or running really rich, and those should be addressed first. Burning oil clogs up the catalyst, and running rich destroys the catalyst over time.
