Hi, I have an '07 classic Chevy Silverado 2500hd 4x4 LBZ diesel. 56k miles. I purchased used & don't have maintenance history. Carfax shows maintenance at dealer, and once at valvoline lube. My question is I want to grease zerks. Not sure what grease to use. I read that it's not good to mix grease. So I'm leaning towards using GM brand oem lube recommended in manual. Cross my fingers previous owner didn't use a different lube. Or maybe it's never been greased. What do you think? Nobody ever talks about this, they show videos on greasing zerks, but no further details on what grease to use and/or mixing brands. Thank you.
If you already read the manual and know what grease to use you’ve answered your question.
Always use factory recommended lubricants, no matter what's in there. The new stuff will displace the old stuff anyway. Just keep squeezing until you see fresh stuff come out. It's just like brake flushing, you keep going until you see new fluid.
Unless your manual states otherwise, any type of Lithium Complex grease will be fine for greasing suspension components, U-joints, etc. I don't think mixing matters unless they're wildly different chemistries. But I've mixed brands of lithium grease an not noticed any reactions or issues.
A few pumps every oil change is all you need.
The manual states : "Chassis Lubricant (GM Part No. U.S. 12377985, in Canada 88901242) or lubricant meeting requirements of NLGI #2, Category LB or GC-LB."
I figured as long as the lube met the requirements after the "or" section it didn't matter the brand.
For automotive use
they must have:
NLGI 2 (aka number 2/ grade 2)
GC-LB
Certified.
use lithium base grease, better have molybdenum disulfide (MoS2)added.
Moly grease usually they can stand in extremely hot and cold environments. Better dust and water resistance.
Usually moly grease don’t state how many % moly they added. Some premium ones state the %, in general 3% - 5%.

some premium brands I recommend: valvoline , Shell, mobile 1, Lucas...

The manufacturer recommended grease is discontinued, and what's available is expensive. That is why I'm looking for a replacement.
any NLGI 2 lithium complex grease from your auto parts store will be fine. It's just grease LOL
