Im working on a 2008 chevy malibu. When the brake pedal is not pressed the brake lights stay on and the computer thinks its pressed in. However when i press in the pedal and let go, the lights turn off for 15 seconds and then turn right back on.
I also have 2 dtcs that may be related:
C0277-06 brake pedal position sensor circuit short to ground or open
C0561-71 EBCM system disabled information stored invalid serial data recieved.
Do i just need a new position sensor or am i looking at a larger wiring issue?
Any advice helps. Thank you!

Disconnect your brake light switch. If the brake lights stay on you have a short in the wiring or a computer problem. If the brake lights turn off replace the switch.
