Chevy Nova '79

My Nova has been running fine then the alternator went out so I kept having to jump the car to get back n fourth to work and home usually car rides fine 36k miles on it. I replaced alternator with a brand new one already replaced battery and also starter. After I replace alternator my car immediately got power and tried to crank, then I jump the car off got it on but it wouldn’t stay on unless I kept pressing the gas. Car cranks sometimes starts when I press the gas and it won’t stay on. Also it’s cold today in Dallas, Tx. I watch all of Scotty’s videos on YouTube so I was wondering if you knew anything useful for me.
 Gas tank is half full

cranks, sometimes starts, and cuts off when I stop accelerating, all after replacing alternator cleaning battery and alternator negative terminal connection. Really hope you could help.

Anything goes when you're dealing with a car that's 45 years old. Check to see if you disturbed any vacuum hoses. If that thing is still stock there will be plenty of them, mostly falling apart from age unless recently replaced.

When it won't start a quick check to see whether the problem is fuel or spark related is to spray some starting fluid down the carburetor throat. Also see the FAQ for diagnosing starting problems.
