Question for you Scotty.
I have a 2015 Chevy Trax with just over 60,000 miles on it and the recommended maintenance says to change my break and transmission fluid but I have no troubles with either. Should I have this done?
Thank you for your help.
Yes. Change them.
The brake fluid will gradually accumulate water. You may not notice it in daily driving, but it could cause issues in heavy braking situations (eg, coming down a long grade in hot weather). Can eventually corrode the brake system components, too. Changing brake fluid is a reasonable DIY project if you are comfortable with a wrench. Otherwise, a good independent shop will probably do it for a reasonable price.
Changing transmission fluid on time is important for extending the life of the unit. I'm not familiar with the Trax, but on most cars it is a more advanced service than brake fluid. But still shouldn't be too expensive, especially if you take it to an independent shop rather than a dealer.
Good luck!
I have no troubles with either
By the time you have troubles it's too late.
The point of doing maintenance, is to prevent having breakdown in the middle of nowhere, or on the side of a busy highway on a cold rainy night.
Whatever it says as scheduled maintenance in the owners manual, that’s what you do. One of the best kept secrets in getting the most out of your car.
Whatever it says in the owner's manual maintenance section and divide by 2.
Same goes for the “service information screen” some cars have in the infotainment system.
