Choosing a capable and a reliable SUV

Hello, I've been planning on buying FJ Cruiser for a long time, it will cost about 13-17K USD around here. But I also want to get some of your opinions on alternatives(besides 4runner). Age and technology doesn't matter, I just want to get quality for the buck. If you can, please share your thoughts and ideas. Thanks in advance!

The Toyota truck-based SUVs are fantastic (Fj Cruiser, 4runner), you can consider the XJ Cherokee with the 4l inline 6, which is one solid capable SUV and they can run forever. You can look into the Nissan Xterra or older gen Pathfinders as those are solid.

And what do you think about old wranglers? Which year models were good, if any?

definitely, the ones from the early 2000s and lower and the ones equipped with the 4l inline 6 are indestructible. The newer ones are not good especially after Fiat took over and now they are under the Stellantis umbrella and they are still bad, so definitely go older.

Thank you very much!

Also, add the Nissan Xterra to the short list.  See here for years to avoid:
