is it feasible to convert my 05 Honda Civic hybrid to an all gas vehicle, the battery has finally given out and I just want it to be an all gas vehicle, is this possible? It’s got 104,000 miles on it, will it cost me an arm and a leg to do this if it’s possible?

You have a car that will easily give you another 104,000 miles. Probably more.

Your original battery lasted almost 20 years (104,000 miles).

You know this car. If it runs good, isn't rusted out, isn't burning oil, and you've done minimum maintenance to it like oil changes it would be worth paying the money for a new OEM (from Honda dealer) battery.

Sure, it's going to cost around $2,300 dollars (after you return the old battery and get the $500 core charge back) but you can't replace the car for that money and like I said, those Civics are good cars.

So do the math. $2,300 for an OEM battery that should last another 10 years. I'm bad at math but I think that cost averages out to less than $20 a month. 5 bucks a week.

Now there are aftermarket companies that sell those batteries for $1,000 less but do some research and find reviews from Civic owners who've had those batteries for at least 5 years before you go with one of those companies.

There's Youtubes of people changing out those batteries themselves. I watched one of a guy and his 5 year old son doing it. He pretty much gives a step by step procedure.

From your forum handle I assume you're a girl. The battery weighs around 70 pounds. I'm sure that you and one of your boy or girl buddies can watch a couple of youtubes and swap out the old battery with a new one.

Here's a video to get you started on understanding what it takes to do this. You can buy cheap tools for this one, ... Girl Power!!!:

You'd be better off just getting rid of the thing and buying a gasoline-powered car to replace it.

It might burn a horrendous amount of fuel if you did

In theory, it is possible to use the Honda with the IMA (Integrated Motor Assist), as a regular car without the hybrid component. There is supposedly a backup starter built into the engine. I’ve never tried it myself, but assuming every gas related component of the engine works, “removing” the hybrid capability should be possible.
