Combined MPG

Just did a fill up on my 07 Accord 2.4L , and calculated the mpg. Getting a combined 28 mpg with 70% interstate 30% city driving.

I'd like to bump that to 30 if I can. I do regular scheduled maintenance. Oil changes every 4k with full synthetic, air filter changes every 5th oil change or 20k, tire pressure checks. Drive fairly conservative with the occasional carbon blowout while on the interstate on ramp.

Anyone got any thoughts on how to squeeze out that last 2 mpg?

You can try adjusting the valves and cleaning  the MAF sensor, but realize that it is an old car and things are worn out over time. You should not expect to have the same mpg when the car was new.

reducing your speed by 5mph will probably make the biggest difference.

you could also try adding more skirting to the front of car and in front of the wheels to deflect air and reduce drag

Joe if I reduce my speed by 5mph they'll probably make me get one of those orange triangles you put on the back of farm equipment 😂. I'm of the old school thought of leave with plenty of time and enjoy the ride.

I'm the same way. Oh well can't win em all.

Well I ran some fuel system cleaner and topped off the tank. Drove about another 200 miles around the city and did a mpg check. I'm getting 30.1 mpg combined city/highway. That's pretty much factory new mpg 👍

Did you get a new PCV valve?

I didn't put in a new PCV, but it's on the list as part of the maintenance.

It's a good idea to just replace the PCV valve at each oil and filter change.

Definitely great idea considering they are as cheap as a good oil filter and big player in efficiency for reburn
