Hey Scottie! I commute to work 103 miles a day. I was thinking about getting an AWD Toyota Camry or waiting to get the new Ford Maverick. Which do you think would be a better choice? I live in New Jersey and have all 4 seasons of weather. Thank you!
Do you need a truck?
The Camry should suit your requirements very nicely & be fuel efficient too.
All the best!
Interesting cross-shop. Don’t know that anyone can give you a fair take on the Maverick yet.
But I think you can reasonably assume the Camry will be roomier, quieter, more comfortable, ride better, handle better, be more reliable, and last longer. It’s also not a truck.
The fact that you would consider the Mav says obviously the idea of a truck appeals to you. It would certainly have some weekend utility the Camry would never have. For most people who buy trucks, it’s that utility why they buy them.
Just be aware that the Mav is gonna have the same knock as the Honda Ridgline: it’s not a “real truck”. They are both unibody SUVs with no roof in the back. For most people, the Ridgeline is all the truck they ever need, but there are some trucky things that the Ridgeline (and maverick) just doesn’t do.
Which raises the question... what about the Ridgeline? Would that be an option for you? It’s everything the maverick is and more (other than hybrid) and I can pretty much guarantee you it will hold up better over time.
First gen of any model comes with issues. Get the Camry.
Go with the Camry unless you really needed a truck bed for utility. The Maverick is too new and there will invariably be bugs/issues to work out the first years. In that case, then I would suggest the Honda Ridgeline (2019 model year with the 6-speed AT; but don’t get 2020 and newer because they switched to the ZF 9-speed AT which has had some issues and jury out on its longevity).
@daywalker I have to say I don't like when Honda removes the shifter. I think it's just not smart to do that.
