I found two within a couple hours of where i live both are asking roughly $5000 private party.

First option:

2003 Mazda MX-5 LS with 132,000 miles comes with parts along with it including front fenders, reflectors, the original bucket seat, handbrake, and a couple other odds and ends.

Second option:

2003 Mazda MX-5 no sure on the trim 127,000 miles haven't contacted the guy on many specifics on this one.

If anyone has or has had an NB Miata what would you recommend. From what research i did do into the car, it seems the start of the generation NB's did have issues that were corrected in later models which is why a 2003-2005 would be ideal. Ive heard a lot of good things about this being an ideal car for a first time manual transmission owner. The aftermarket scene is definitely a benefit considering Miatas are reliable and affordable sports cars.

Also considering picking up an obd2 reader as it would greatly help in choosing the right car for me. How many miles are NB Miatas generally good for and what issues at the mileage should i be concerned about. Appreciate the help have a great day everyone.

Let's be honest you're good for quite a few miles but as they get older of course things can happen so do get a scanner and I would also bring a compression tester and check the compression and all four cylinders. They had better be an excellent shape for $5,000 though I picked them up for $1,000 $1,500 in rally shape but it didn't take all that much to make them look good after that anyway

These are good cars especially with manual transmission.

I own NB,‘04, 6-speed manual. Just one fault: … rubber bellows … the two under the dust sock on the shifter, last, oh, about 3 years. Two hour complete job each time. Other than that, … not a one iota of problems. You have to find a good one, though, … locally, every one drives a heck out of them. And they rust if you use them in snow (I don’t, … strictly May 1 to first sign of frost - usually mid-October)

Daily driver? Well, … it’s noisy when the top is down, worse when the top is up: booming drone! One hour and you had it, … unless you sport earplugs driving. Best car if you simply like driving. I pile about 10-12k kilometres on my per season.

Best,

F.S.
