Hi how are you question I have a 2015 Volvo S60 I want to know if I change the bushings on the control arm front left and front right do I need to change the control arm or I can just replace the bushing it's itself
Unless you have your own press tool, you'll have to replace the whole arm.
do I need to change the control arm or I can just replace the bushing it's itself
In your vehicle’s case, the cost of the bushing is half of the price of an entire new control arm assembly. I’d just replace the control arm itself -
If it was $5 vs $75, then yeah, I’d look around for a shop with a press. But in this case, nah.
TMK, if you have the know how, the time, and the right new bushings, it is better to change the bushings out, so you can keep the OEM control arms.
On the other hand. Most mechanics I have worked with would change out the whole control arm, since it is usually more cost effective for them and the customer to just bolt on and bolt off a part, rather than change the actual wear item.
I think it is a case by case basis, some control arms may be super expensive, where it is more cost effective to just change the bushings. And other control arms are super cheap, where it is more cost effective to just change the whole thing out.
Yeah because every time I go over a bump the bushing starts to make noise like as if you're squeezing a dog toy So you're saying my best bet is to just replace my bushings and that's it
@mmj is right, you might need a special tool. Sometimes they may have these tools at AutoZone or your local auto parts shop to “rent” for “free”.
even then it's rarely worth it
