Corolla - Avensis ???

hello Scotty, I want to buy a Toyota Corolla 1.8L manual tr, but in Europe the Corolla model is not equipped with this engine instead you can find it on the Avensis model.
What is with this Avensis model (2003-2009), there is also a 1.6L available and which engine to choose 1.6 and 1.8 or 2.0? I heard they are made in the UK. are they reliable?

Avensis is European Camry, like Auris is European and Japanese Corolla hatchback.
