Ford's Newest 1.5L Ecoboost Engine

We've been hearing a lot about the newest iteration of Ford's 1.5L Ecoboost Dragon engine and have a couple questions. They use an oil-bathed timing belt instead of a timing chain. If you maintain this kind of system, is it a reliable one? Also, we can't seem to find any information on whether the water pump is internal or external. Do you have any idea? Thanks so much for helping us be more knowledgeable car buyers!

I hate the idea of having a rubber timing belt submerged in oil. It just doesn't make sense at all...why not just go with a timing chain at that point? They're copying VW's idea with this one, and it's a terrible one.

As for whether the water pump is electric or mechanical, it will most likely be electric. Most modern engines nowadays are going with an electric water pump because of their efficiency and flow management for better operating temps.

Yes, on this 1.5L engine the water pump is electric.  They also has port + direct injection which mitigates carbon buildup.  However, they also added cylinder deactivation now, which other automakers have had issues with - that last past will definitely hamper its reliability.
