Just picked up a 2009 corolla S for a good deal. Need to get the clutch replaced. Shifting into 4th has a little grind. I replaced the MT fluid/oil with redline MT-90 and still doing it. Should I fix the transmission at the same time? And if I do look at doing the MT is a rebuild ok, or should I be looking at junk yard, reman, or new replacement (if that is an option)?
You can try getting a remanufactured transmission but you need to find an expert on something like that. A transmission from a junk yard is a gamble. Getting the trans. rebuild also requires an expert mechanic. Fix your transmission at your own risk.
Live with it. Shift from 3rd directly into 5th.
If it really bothers you and you can find a cheap transmission from junk yard with some sort of warranty, go ahead and replace it, otherwise live with it.
I would have it rebuilt at a trans specialty shop. It probably just needs seals and synchros to be good as new.
