Hello all,

The link below I am posting is not my car but using it as an example as the sound coming from my car is almost the same.

https://youtu.be/bgha5Rjzxvw

My Corolla 2013 produce whining sound during acceleration only after running for about 15 - 30 mins.

I had change the TF, the belt, water pump and alternator.

I am not too sure if it is a problem.

Auto code P1604. But I dont think the code is related as the whine appear before the code is present.

Does the sound go away if you remove the drive belt (run it only for a few seconds)?

If it doesn’t go away -

The sound is only present during acceleration. Looks like temperature related.

So?

If the car is running at constant speed e.g 100km/hr , there wouldnt be any whining, It is only during acceleration around 2000 to 4000 rpm. So removing the drive belt to search for the sound might be redundant.

Many things can make that sound.

One of the accessories on the accessory belt (alternator, power steering pump, water pump etc.)

It could be a bearing in the engine, or the transmission.

Do you get the whine if you rev the engine in neutral?

Have not try that before.

@MountainManJoe There is no whining when rev in neutral up till 4000 rpm. I am surprise.

it's your transmission

+1 @mmj

@MountainManJoe Is that good or bad for a CVT?

I've never owned a CVT, but usually whining is a bad sound. It means something is rubbing which should not be.

Do you know where I can find the correct temperature to top up the CVT transmission fluid? I have seen some youtube videos but getting different temperature range.

Load test your battery. A badly worn battery may be putting excess load on the alternator, and the resulting whine -

'Battery load tested. all good.

How old is it?

1 to 2 year old battery

Yes. The code could be related. This is why we ask in the posting instructions.

Did you have problems starting the car?

P1604 TOYOTA Code - Startability Malfunction

P1604 TOYOTA code possible causes

  • Low Battery charge
  • Starting system
  • Low quality fuel
  • Clogged Fuel filter
  • Faulty Engine Control Module (ECM)

No problem starting the car. It drove like normal.

Maybe I am dreaming, the acceleration seems weaker when the whining occur. For the first 10 mins of the drive before the engine is fully warm up , there is no whining on acceleration.

When was the last time you changed your CVT fluid?

About 1 year ago by a Toyota branch. Do you think there is a lack of fluid?

Do you have proof that it was ‘actually’ replaced? Well, check the condition of the fluid at present & take it from there. Check your owner’s manual for a procedure to check the CVT fluid. Also, it’s a good idea to have an honest independent mechanic to perform routine maintenance for your vehicle.

It is a Toyota branch, not a private mechanic.

The Trans fluid is seal up. There is no dipstick. The only way is to drain it out.

I had requested the fluid to be change as an independent service.
