Could this part possibly fit my car?

So a while back, I asked a question about my 77 LTD brakes going out. Specifically the power booster. Me and all of the guys at the shop determined that the brake booster needed to be replaced. So we thought we would order another one and be done with it.  We were dead wrong.

I have tried so hard to find somebody who had this in stock for at least 3 weeks now without any luck at all. We cannot find a place who has one of these OE brake boosters in stock. They have universal brake boosters, but I am afraid to try that as they may not fit, and I would have to get another pedal and maybe make bracket.... I really want to avoid that.

There is a site called CARiD where they have a huge selection of parts. I decided to look up a brake booster for a 77 mustang since they are the same year, and it appears they have ONE in stock.  I have attached images to let you guys compare the two.

Now I know these don't look the same nor are they the same length, but the rod connecting to the pedal looks to be very similar in length. The mustang booster is a little longer and not tilted like the LTD booster, but these are extremely similar. I'd like to know your opinions if you think this could possibly fit on my car. I am extremely desperate to get this car back on the road.  At one point, I had considered converting it to hydroboost, but I feel like I need to try this first. Let me know what you guys think.

Why not have your original brake booster rebuilt? There are a number of companies out there providing that service or selling kits to rebuild it yourself.

It's actually more difficult than you think to find someone who rebuilds these things anymore. We have called several people who could rebuild it, but we either don't get calls back or they can't. We will try rockauto soon, but I have my doubts. My boss who has been running the shop for 40 years says "When fluid leaks into the booster, it probably can't be rebuilt." I'm not sure how much truth there is to that, but rebuilding doesn't appear to be a good option.

I've never heard that they can't be rebuilt if brake fluid gets inside them, that's usually why they fail. I don't think brake fluid would affect the metal parts and seals would be replaced as part of the rebuilding process. They're not that complicated internally. But obviously if you can't find a place that can do the job it's a moot point. Maybe the Rockauto rebuilding service through Cardone can work out for you. (Like everyone else Rockauto lists no boosters in stock for that car.)

I’m attaching a link to Rock auto. They don’t have the part in stock but the first two listings are for companies you ship your booster to have it rebuilt.

Don't know if this helps, but I checked on an AMC forum and one of the guys there said he had the brake booster for his 1970 AMX rebuilt at this joint just a few months ago. That's a heck of a lot more obscure vehicle than a Ford LTD, might be worth checking out:

I will check them out if all other options don't work.
