COVID 19 killed my battery

Dear Scotty,

I am an ex-pat living in Japan.  I drive a Honda Vezel (HRV) 1.5l naturally aspirated. I bought the car in 2019 new from Honda. I went in for my 2 year check-up and the dealer found only one problem. My battery was at 40% life. I think it is because I work so much from home now and have only driven 11,700km in 2 years.  These new Hondas with all the electronics use the battery 24/7. Is there a way to salvage the battery or should I just buy a new one, and is there a way to stop this from happening again? I turn off the idol stop button to keep it running at lights now.

Thanks for all of the advice over the years.

All the best,

Randall Conners

Well did they try to recharge it? Try to recharge it first. If it’s still weak after a full charge, then yeah replace it.

It may be a good idea for you to invest in a trickle charger.

You can try trickle charging it like advised above. But TBH, it will probably be cheaper to replace it. Or just wait until it can gets below a certain threshold and then replace it.

Turn the start/stop off after you start the car the first time and you won't have to do it again until you have to start it the next time.

I would try a noco genius 1. I have used it on dead batteries, and it has saved some. If it doesn't help your current battery, it can be used to maintain a new one.
