Hi, I've had a 2003 Honda CR-V (Automatic Transmission) with 161,000 miles since new. Keep it maintain with regular maintenance. Just last summer when it was hot outside & I had been idling in Park, the gear shift would not move. The lock release would not work either. I had to turn the car off, let it cool & then after starting the car I could move the gear shift. Took it to the dealer, they kept it overnight & couldn't replicate the problem. Just this past weekend, the problem happened again when I was at the airport. Any suggestions other than not idling in Park on hot days 🙂
Try turning the steering wheel from one side to the other when it happens. It will barely move, but maybe just enough to get it out if park. I don’t know what the problem is. This is just a hack to get you going.
I tried that last summer & again last weekend... but the shift lever didn't move. Thanks
I guess I didn’t Know What You Did Last Summer.
It’s often a bad brake switch
Yep, Or just the cable getting stuck, I do not remember If that model had a mechanical gear selector and parking pin.
