hey scotty i have a 2011 chevy malibu lt with 251k miles on it, i got it for free and it works great no complaints other than the shifting. when i accelerate from idle it jerks a bit from 1st to 2nd, then harder from 2nd to 3rd. is that normal or to be expected from what ive got? its high milage but if theres a way i can prevent it from doing that, or getting worse id appreciate it, thank you
It's hard to argue with a free car that runs and drives, but at that mileage you can bet the transmission is on its way out. Has the trans even been serviced regularly? Is the fluid level OK and what does the fluid look like?
Note that engine and transmission problems are common for that model:

Some trans additives MIGHT help, but I’d be looking for another car.
