Scotty,
Last week I took my 2015 Toyota Prius V to my dealer for it's annual oil change. I covered only 1200 miles this past year due to my self retirement and Covid. When the service repwrote me up he said the cost of the oil change was now 99.99, plus tax. WHAT!!!! I asked what happened. It used to be around $50. He said the price of oil had gone up. I said when the price goes down are you going to drop the price? With that being said I'm toying with doing my own oil change, since I need to do it only one per year. My question is; Must I use Toyota's branded oil and filter, or can I use after market merchandise? If I use 'after market', does that affect my warranty?
Thanks for your consideration.

You can use any quality oil and any filter rated for that yeah they are rip offs but they always have been really
According to a Master Toyota Diagnostician (thecarcarenut on YouTube), Toyota oil is rebranded Mobil One. There you go on that.
As for the Toyota filters, in bulk (6), they're no more expensive than mid-grade aftermarket filters. I use them. They are a quality filter and do an excellent job.
Toyota doesn't make their own oil, it's just a name brand that rebranded in a bottle with Toyota labels on it. Good quality oil and filter, you can get at any part stores. If I remember, Mobil makes their oil and Denso makes their filters.
you can get a 5qt jug at Wally World for about $25, car part stores about $30. Filter is less than $10. Charging your $100+tax, talk about rip-off.
I found a coupon for your local Toyota Dealer for $60 for an oil change.

Yeah, I saw that too.. I asked a pal at my local dealership "what gives"? He said their 0-20 bulk oil there is Mobile 1 synthetic. (Only the 0-20 was Mobile 1 synthetic)
Since I'm unable to change my own oil and filter, I scheduled an appointment, used a $10 off service coupon but skipped the "multi-point inspection". Cost me $65. Wish I could still do it myself!
Go to Autozone or O'Reilly's, sign up for their rewards programs and get a discount on the oil and filter you need. Don't forget to get a new PCV valve with each oil change.
everything is more expensive sadly. Worse, a lot of goods are plain unobtainable right now!
To answer your question, no you don't have to use OEM. In fact , aftermarket is sometimes better than OEM. No, it won't void your warranty.
