Hi Scotty, what decent scan tool, besides your $5000 fancy one would you recommend for the European cars? I see that you’re using a Bosch  brand once in a while. Is the Bosch a better option? Thank you.

As I was added to this thread, these are my thoughts..

  • What are you looking to use this scan tool for?

If it's just simple code reading you can find one for as low as 10-20 bucks. A little higher on the bracket at 100 dollars you can get a blue driver and it will work for most things that you can do by hand. If anything higher than that my shop only uses Autel and the models we use are Maxisys Pro &Maxisys Elite (note the bluetooth one sucks, none of us like using it) will be around $2500, but I have convinced my current boss to get a Benz dealer level scan tool cause We've had an influx of benz customers in the past year. Found a good non china source for a little under $1200.

  • And by euro do you mean bmw or benz or  something else perhaps?

If it's a Benz then the STAR scan tool will be pretty handy, if you punch in the VIN of the car then you can literally know everything about the car prior to the year 2018 when Benz decided that there cars can only be fixed at a dealer... Oh well. If BMW I would recommend the equivalent. Is it has been 2 years since I prior used the software at my previous shop I do not remember the name of the system. Apologies. INPA, or was it ISTA... Something like that haha my bad.

Ahh typo dang it THEIR**** I swear I know how to spell -_-

The Bosch works well and is definitely a good by for the price point.

Autel also offers some good units to fit different budgets.

Thanks for the feedback!

Anytime! 🙂

Several questions:  Are you in North America?  What is your budget?  Which European cars (year, make, model) do you need to scan and what do you need the scan tool to do?  The answers these questions will dramatically change the scan tool recommendation from a few hundred dollars to several thousand (even tens of thousands).  So, you need to know exactly what you want to get out of the tool.

If you want something basic, just get a FoxWell or what ever is best selling on amazon.

If you want something more advanced, I’d get the $700 Launch scan tool.

it does more then most proper really expensive scan tools…

If you want spend even more; a Bosch can be quite a good deal although personally I herd they tend to randomly reboot during the most  inappropriate times… like when doing a calibration on a mechatronic or during actuation test…

Pine hollow does great super advanced diagnosis videos and you can see him use this tool for the last couple of years and how much he was able to do with a tool this cheap.

I remember Bosch rebooted in one of Scotty's videos

@g-t
Yep… he was very lucky it wasn’t during a process that could’ve bricked the car… 👀

In general I really dislike Bosch. Their products always feel unfinished… (from washing machines to drills…)

Is it just a design or do they fall apart faster than other brands? Folks love their mixers there.

It’s the design in my opinion that makes them fall apart… the parts them selfs seem to be quite nice but for some reason they just have issues.
when it comes to mixers and kitchen tools (Also shavers and tooth brushes) I love braun 👀
When I think of Bosch my mind jumps to things like this…
