Hello in April I took my Mitsubishi eclipse to a Mitsubishi dealership to get a timing belt job done today I got a really loud noise coming from a engine and come to find out the timing cover is cracked and a piece of belt was laying on the side of the engine what can I do now the piece says Napa auto parts
First, just take it back and ask for them to look at it and ask if they will fix it. You get lucky sometimes and they just do the right thing and fix it if it's evident it's because of something they did. FIRST place to start.
And I think all mechs here would prefer this too if it happened to them (things happen and everyone goofs up at times). I know I'd appreciate it and promptly repair it for ya.
Myself, like others here, bad mouth dealerships and for good reason, however, there are some that do good for folks and I know of a couple around here that I wouldn't tag as stealership.
Let us know what happens.
Does the dealer give any warranty for its repairs?
I say complain, the job was supposed to done right from the beginning
Call the dealer about this Tomorrow. usually dealers give you one year warranty on MOST things but you must read your receipt to be precise on the work done.
Oh and you did not get scammed..unless you can prove it. it is just a repair dispute. You will figure out if you got scammed when you hear the dealers story on WHY they won't repair it for free or charge you a discount to re-repair it....
The timing belt piece says Napa auto parts but I got it done at Mitsubishi and I dont know where the receipt is what are you suggestion
If it was done at the dealership, they should have no trouble looking up your car & it’s previous repair, in their system.
Dealer should be able to look up the repair in their computer. If you paid by credit card, debit, or check...look up your statement for transaction. Cash is going to be your receipt or dealer record.
Nothing wrong with dealer using an non-original equipment part, its done all the time.
So...calmly and respectfully talk to the "service manager" and ask about the guarantee on their work. (skip talking to the "service writers", all they do is make appointments).
Don't have the vehicle hauled to the dealer. Talk to them first. Work out the receipt issue first. Then they will want to see the vehicle, most likely in person. A picture might suffice.
Get a written estimate before proceeding with any work.
All that said, you have the option of getting it repaired anywhere, paying and then get reimbursed by the dealership or having the dealership do the repair. Verify that with the service manager and the warranty manager.
Realistically don't expect the dealership to cover the repair 100%. They will probably tell you they will redo the original work and any collateral damage is on you.
You didn't say if the vehicle still runs. If it does, DO NOT start it.
Almost all of the Eclipses have interference engines so if there's something going on in the timing belt area, it's time to start pushing her to wherever she needs to go
I found a piece of the belt next to the timing cover. Also there is a giant crack on the timing cover on the top moring and it was running lastnight I havent turned it on since lastnight
