So far it's a pretty good scanner that there's lots of things for a whole range of cars

Go to the manufacturer websites for both vehicles and somewhere on the page for each tool (I know with Innova this is the case), see which one has better coverage of features/services (including bidirectional) for your vehicle(s):  it may surprise you from what they advertise.  Also, check on updates for both devices (lifetime?  1-year only, then pay?). Also, make sure you buy from an authorized dealer (although in Innova’s case you can also buy direct from their site) so you don’t get scammed with a Chinese clone or defective unit as well as get warranty, service, and updates here in North America:  with Autel, for example and the tool I own, Amazon is NOT an authorized dealer.

Since Scotty has used the Innova one a lot and seems to like it, I’d personally (between the two) go with the Innova.  My $400 Autel MX808 does not have bi-directional ability and I have to pay $130 a year to get updates (which I haven’t done, of course, since don’t need it).

Where are you looking?  I went straight to Innova’s website and found this page:

https://www.innova.com/collections/all/products/carscan-pro-5610

You can pair with a free, downloadable diagnostic app called RepairSolutions2 - I wonder if that’s what the 5610 RS really means.

Anyhow, if you buy it - buy direct from Innova to get the latest firmware and to not get scammed by 3rd party sellers.

I did a google search looking for them and saw an RS on ebay

@Fatalroadie I would not trust eBay for expensive scan tools. Stick to the manufacturers website and their official dealers.

Please search your question in the search bar. It has been answered multiple times.

PS. Isn’t Scotty already in TN?

Found solid answers with the search bar, thanks. New to the site and did not even notice the search bar.

Welcome to the forum and no worries!

I just ordered the Innova 5610. It was already on my short list when I saw this thread and @scottykilmer featured it in his recent "This Type of Gasoline Will Destroy Your Car" video.

you can see Scotty uses the 5610 in his latest video. Can't be that bad.

I've been in the market for a better scanner (I have an old actron) I saw Scotty using the 5610. When I looked it up there are two, the standard and the RS. What's the difference between the two, and which one is better? Thank you in advance X)

I e-mailed Innova directly and asked about the difference between the 5610 and 5610RS.  This was their answer:

“The 5160RS and 5610 are the exact same tools in features and coverage, but just have different colors. You can purchase the 5160RS off Amazon. I do not know why the prices are different, even though these tools are the same except for colors. The 5610 is less expensive.“

go to innova's website and do the coverage checker and find your vehicle to see what it will and won't be able to do. I was surprised that their pretty expensive one is only compatible with 1 thing (check engine) on my 2019 car.

I have learned that most scanners will not scan all the functions of a newer car as (they say) the cars are still under warranty. Buy a scanner with lifetime updates that way as cars age, they are added to the scanners ability to scan them.

I too find it strange that the 5610 and 5160 RS seem to be the same scanner, but in different colors, and the 5160 RS is much more expensive.

Anyone know which video Scotty uploaded on YouTube in which he answers someone’s question about the Innova scanner and how they’re excellent?

I just wanted to know which one would be better for the same price I ordered a ancel fx6000 scanner but I see u use a innova 5160  both are same price which would be better

I think the Innova brand is more reputable

Between those two I would go with the Innova.

I was curious if anyone had any experience with the Innova 3100 scan tool that runs about $100. Wanted to know if it was worth it, cause I was thinking about giving my dad my Foxwell NT301 and getting the Innova to replace it with.

I had gotten a FIXD POS a few years prior, and had gotten one for him too, but I soon found out it wasn't worth it whatsoever. Figured it'd make a good father's day gift.

Scotty, can you make another video on Innova scan tools like the one you did in Rhode Island? I found that video informational and I want to learn more about them and how to use them.

Sure the next time I get something interesting to use it on

Oh wow, thanks Scotty. Didn't expect you to respond.

I just got the Innova 5610 ans I’m wondering if there are any firmware updates. Mine still has the 2018 firmware, should I update it? I have a 2021 car and want to see if it will read some more things if it has an update.

Hi Scotty.

I see you using the Innova 5160rs quit a bit in your videos and I am thinking of ordering one from Amazon. There are newer models available but I am not sure if they have the same features. Should I get the 5160rs or do you have other suggestions? Also, don't forget to come back to Tennessee in the fall.

Thanks

New update for Innova 7111 come out Sep 28 2022 updates it from 2019 to 2022 . Same update for Innova 5160RS and the 5610 coming out mid Oct. 15-20 , This will update them from 2019 to 2022 That is a long time between Free updates. You would think a update would come at lest every year.
