Yep, not ready to replace duties of ICE anytime soon.

I don't think they'll really ever get to being as efficient as gas engines for pulling things, unless you put huge batteries in them, like Scotty has said. 

In my experience, we have electric forklifts at work, and the 5,000 pound capacity Crown quickly loses 40% of its power if you lift things that weigh a significant fraction of its capacity. I'd say 10 lifts to shelf height and driving with the load a few hundred feet around the plant. 

Our big Toyota forklift can handle up to 12,500 pounds. That one will last several days, picking up 2000-3,000 pound loads and moving them around. 

An electric vehicle will probably never be able to pull twice the base vehicle's weight for 200-300 miles without recharging or having stupid huge batteries. Gasoline and diesel are so much denser, energy-wise, than electric batteries.
