I have a 2023 Chevy duramax diesel engine and I am moving to Missouri do I have to worry about gelling and if I do how do I prevent it.
thank you
Nice summary. Thanks for posting the link.
the fueling station should be "winterizing" the diesel in the winter. You can ask them about it when you're there to be sure. They can't have the fuel gelling in their tanks either, right?
If you have cans of fuel that aren't winterized, then you can buy your own additive. You only need to worry if it gets to 15F.
I'm a believer in fuel additives for diesels (though not gas). Just my opinion, but the odds of getting bad diesel fuel are fairly high, and modern diesels are much more fragile than in the old days. You can buy a lot of additive for the cost of a new injector.
I won't get into warm weather additives, because that's its own can o' worms. Lots of different brands, and all have their fans. But for cold weather, there are fewer choices. IMO, PowerService Winterizer/Antigel (the white bottle) is a good one, and very widely available.
I just spent Christmas in NE Idaho, with temps down to -1. Ran PS Winterizer in my little (3L) Duramax and had no issues. In MO, you can probably get by with just the fuel from the pump with a regular summer additive. But you can keep a little bottle of Winterizer under your back seat for when there is an unusual cold snap.
Does the additive exit with the fuel, meaning it’ll be gone by the next tank? Or does it stick around a while, meaning it could potentially cause problems if the vehicle isn’t driven all too often, and then it becomes the other season (winter/summer)?
I just bought a 1996 International (before the emissions mods), and was wondering if this is something that applies to me. Thanks!

Instead of "hijacking" someone else's old topic it would be better to post one of your own, giving details of your vehicle as requested in the posting instructions as well as a clear and concise description of the issue you are asking about.
