Difference between jacking engine on AWD and FWD vehicles

Hello,

I have got 2008 Lexus RX350 AWD. Water pump failed recently. I am planning to do the job myself. Have seen many videos on how to do this particular job.

There are many guys who jack the engine of the car from the side of water pump to get a better access. My concern is to break something especially it was not clear from videos whether they were FWD or AWD vehicles.

Thank you in advance

It's not necessary to jack the engine up to replace the water pump. Yes, I know it's tight in there but it is doable.

Some people probably do, but those folks have more than likely removed the motor mounts freeing the engine to be jacked up giving them a little more room to get to the water pump, but you have to be careful when doing so.

Whatever you do, don’t let it result into this -

Regardless of you jack it up, make sure to use jack stands alongside your jack.

When I did the water pump for my Accord, I jacked it up from the front center jack point, and put jack stands under both the left and right side at the front jack points beneath my front door.

The weight was primarily on the jack stands, and I used the jack on the front center point for extra safety.

Check your owners manual for where the jack points are on your car. That’s the best way to Know where to jack and not break anything.
