I have a 1994 Honda accord ex with 2.2l vtec engine. its A F22B1 I was installing the distributor and I wasn't paying attention and I had one the keys broke off and I couldn't locate where it was so I believe it fell inside the engine its not a very big piece of metal but the question I have is would I have to tear the engine apart to locate it or what to do?

I would try fishing it out with a magnet and if that didn't work then take off the valve covers. The piece can't get any deeper than that.

I definitely wouldn't start the engine ... then you'd really be in a pickle

just wanted to give the good news i took valve cover off and used a magnetized screwdriver to reach inside where it was and was able to fish it out. thank you for advice.

You are a very lucky man. If I were you, I would immediately buy a lottery ticket. @cardio

well done
