Do electromagnetic rust inhibitor modules work?

Hi Scotty,

I love your videos! I ordered a new 2024 Subaru Crosstrek and the dealer wants to sell me a an electromagnetic rust inhibitor module which comes with a 10-year warranty against rust. They claim this module sends a patented pulse-wave throughout the vehicle which acts like an electronic shield for all sheet metal surfaces of the car, effectively reducing corrosion by up to 99.7%. I live on Northern Ontario and the vehicle will be driving in snow and salt. They are charging a lot for the module but it comes with a 10 year warranty, and I see I can also buy a similar module cheaper from Amazon. Do you know if these work and if it's worth my consideration?

Thanks!

No. It's a scam.

anything that sent pulses or waves through the body of vehicle would disrupt every electrical system you have. Possibly damaging it permanently.

My guess is that it's your classic empty box with blinky lights on it.

I was told by a former merchant marine captain that they use some electrical tech on the big ships to prevent corrosion. But as MountainManJoe said, it could cause problems in a car. Car's electrical systems work by passing negative charge through the body of the vehicle. More research would definitely be in order.

ship hulls are submerged in conductive solution. Totally different animal.
