Do you have a checklist when buying a used car?

I have always bought Ford cars. Mostly, due to the fact that it’s just what my family has done. However, I have been having growing concerns with the quality of domestics cars. I have found your YouTube channel and enjoy the content and your knowledge. After watching your channel I am convinced my next vehicle purchase will either be a Toyota/Lexus or Honda/Acura. I live in Southern Alberta Canada. The winters are brutally cold and the summers are hot.

I need a family vehicle , most likely a SUV. Something that can tow a boat and make up a snowy ski hill.

I would like to buy a newer used SUV. I am not well educated on vehicles, could you make some suggestions with Toyota/Lexus or Honda/Acura?

A checklist for a qualified mechanic before buying would be great?

Thanks,

The first and most important thing I want to see is dry/wet compression test.  This gives me a good idea as to the general condition of the engine.  After that, a deep scan for stored codes, a physical inspection by a qualified mechanic and I want to actually see receipts for maintenance work.  I don't trust Carfax or any of those outfits for information.

Thx
