If so what year should i stay away from?
Adding @Mod_Man also
In my opinion, no. personally if I went the mustang route I’d buy 2013-15 5.0 V8. The 6 cyl motors are garbage. The turbos kick some power out until they’ve had the piss run out of em then they are just money out of your wallet. The manual transmissions on the newer ones are Chinese made and are prone to breaking.
What about the 2008 V8?
@Happy504 regarding 2008 V8 see below from one of our Mustang experts Mod_Man:

@happy504 @daywalker is spot on with that link. Knowledge gained right there.
The last V6 had no turbocharger. I have one. You must be thinking of the EcoBoost. The Cyclone 3.7L was a well built V6. Same power as an old V8 without all the fancy GDI and turbo crap
@justin_shepherd I’m just old school man. To me a V6 in a American muscle car is worthless. Get a V8 and let er rip.
Do they make reliable V6 engines? Meh....right now, they don't make them at all. You either get a turbo 4 with the EcoBoost or the V8. Both have tons of issues.
IMO, the last good Ford V6 Mustang was the 4.0L Cologne V6 engines made in the 2005 - 2010 Mustangs. Not speed demons, but they were RELIABLE....a word that seems to be lost on Ford these days.
NO!
The v6s can die out after 70,000 miles. Though Ford has improve in reliability, still wouldn't trust it, get a toyota or a honda instead
I suggest you go on Wikipedia and see what years have what engine and avoid the EcoBoost and Cyclone engines,
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_Mustang_(sixth_generation)
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_Mustang_(fifth_generation)#Initial_release
I want to say 5.4 V8 but not sure if thats the 3 valve in the fifth generation.
Take caution to only look at automatics in Mustangs from the last decade, as the manual transmissions are subpar and are Chinese made.
Kerem, the 3.7L V6 (Cyclone and Duratec) in the Mustangs were longitudinal engines and had the water pump external to the engine. It’s the transverse V6 ones to avoid but those were on other vehicles (not the Mustang).
Also, the 5.4L V8 you mention there in the Mustang was the supercharged 4-valve (because of DOHC) and that was fine. It’s the 3-valve SOHC to avoid, but that was never used in the Mustang.
Alright thanks, what he said + avoid EcoBoost designs.
They used to have a V6 offered for the Mustang, but not anymore. Since 2018 it's either 4-turbo or 5.0 V8.
They had practically same HP as the 4-turbo but had less torque. Were they reliable? Compared to the 4-turbo, yes but then that's not saying much.
