Doug Demuro made a video and posted on 8/8/21 entitled “Here’s Why I Buy Unreliable Cars” and at 2:40 below address Scotty Kilmer. He then goes on to respond (while laughing) that “Scotty Kilmer should not be taken seriously on anything”. Why does he (Doug) have to be like that?

Professional jealousy is an ugly thing.
Doug Demuro is a professional? What, a professional reader of owner's manuals and press releases?
Self-styled to be sure.
well he's right that Scotty's video titles shouldn't be taken seriously
Doug Demuro reviews cars and their features, Scotty talks about the history, reliability, and the best cars to buy for the average person. Doug and many other youtubers like him (I'm looking at you Street Speed 717 and WhistlinDiesel), Have millions of dollars and it doesn't matter to them if they have to drop 70k to 100k on the newest car or truck since to them money is literally no object. Scotty however, doesn't want to do that as he doesn't feel the need to jump on to trends and try to look "cool", and neither does the average person who not only doesn't want to but cannot afford it. While I don't think he's right ALL the time, I think scotty's channel is a better one to go to because he wants to help the average person and not drive a car that 95% of his viewers could never afford.
In short, Doug doesn't take Scotty seriously probably because he's so rich he doesn't have to, because unlike most of us, Doug doesn't have a budget when it comes to buying a new car or covering the repairs of a car.
Doug who?
....uh......OH you mean that glorified infomercial guy who goes around to different dealerships and begs them to let him shoot a video about how great their car is despite having ZERO mechanical knowledge or experience working on ANY. CAR. EVER.? That Doug?
Literally anyone can do what he does. Not everyone can do what Scotty does.
This!
Doug Demuro: Cars and Bids
It’s interesting: I have been subscribed to Doug Demuro’s 2 channels for many years but over time stopped watching them because it just does nothing for me. The cars he reviews I can’t afford and/or I would never own them because of reliability/longevity concerns. But this video - I tuned in to, and while he can do whatever he wants with his money (none of our business), I was really turned off when he commented that “Scotty Kilmer should not be taken seriously on anything”. That’s a bold statement: obviously, if it’s Scotty’s clickbait titles in his videos Doug was referring to, or if Doug mentioned every now and then there are things Scotty says that should be taken with a grain of salt, then I could understand. But he flat out said “on anything” - that’s a whole new low for Doug Demoron. Then again maybe he said it for the sake of getting more attention in the YouTube automotive community.
I thought the same thing. It's normal to disagree with someone on certain points, or have a different perspective, but outright slamming Scotty is just embarrassing yourself.
In the automotive community world, there are 4 different types of people on how they view Scotty.
- The ones who know Scotty and respect him
- The ones who know Scotty but question him (trying to prove him wrong on cars)
- People who don't know Scotty at all
- The Haters
Doug DeMuro is the opposite of Scotty Kilmer. I think he tries to prove him wrong on certain cars. He wants to encourage people to buy "this car" due to the features that are on it. Doug sees features in cars over reliability of car manufacturers.
I respect Scotty and I think he is rlly funny and has taught me a lot about car mechanics, yes I do like Toyotas and Lexus (maybe if I am rich I would run to my local Lexus dealer and buy an IS 500 or LC 500 since they are cool as hell and NA V8s are sadly dying), but there is something cool and charming about owning cars that aren't as reliable as a Toyota but way more desirable. Land Rovers are terrible for repairs and reliability but when they work they are fun to drive and capable, however, the G wagon is cooler and probably more reliable and better built than a Landrover/ Range Rover. Audis are not the most reliable but their 5 cylinder engines can last a really long time if well taken care of since they have made them for so long and used them in rally racing. For me I would have a ride that is not the most reliable but very desirable and one that is reliable as a backup, I feel that creates a good balance.
I've never owned a Toyota or Honda product and for that matter have probably have never owned a car that Scotty really would approve of, but I've done OK with them. I think he's right though that for the typical owner who does not do his or her own wrenching and wants reliability and long service life those are going to be the best brands to own excepting specific models with known problems.
Pretty much Doug Demuro sounds like he belongs to JD Power. Doug Demuro is a car enthusiast. Everyone here should watch this video lol. @mod_man, @mountainmanjoe, @0192700salt, @infinitifxfan, @kesterpaul62, @chucktobias, and @daywalker

lol not rlly, but he has his own preferences. I will say some cars that come from brands that are not the best in terms of reliability are a bit underestimated. I have seen Audis with V6s, V8s and 5 cylinders go a long distance. G wagons are expensive cars, but they are solid built and can last quite some time.
@infinitifxfan It's not that bad at least he bought some Audis and Mercedes that have simple technology. So I gotta give him that.
@legendaryslayer yeah and the G wagon of that gen was pretty reliable, even though the one Doug has looks like a Barbie Jeep. The Audi RS 2, while it's still an Audi the 5 cylinder engine and the manual are pretty dependable, there is a reason why Audi won so many rally championships with those 5 cylinder rally cars.
@infinitifxfan That's an interesting fact to know. Thanks.
Well he is right on another couple things as well. It's his money not nobody else's, it's not important to him to have reliability in his life. So meh, kinda get it with a lot of my (very strict and straight edged Chinese family) asking all the time why I bought and am working on a "junk" project bmw from the 80s. I think at least that everyone should just do what they want with their spare money. I do the mods and built my car because I wanted to, to what I want, screw anyone who says "you should do this or that or that mod would look so sick dude, you should turbo or engine swap" get you own car and you go do that stuff. If I wanted your opinions on something I woulda asked.
My Dad used to say - "If I wanted your opinion, I'd give it to you."
The problem with Demuro and all of the these "feature only" reviewers is that they never discuss reliability in their reviews at all, as if it not important, which is BS and not very informative. Any of us can go sit in a car and find the features.
I'm too rich to be worried about reliability is not an attractive quality, Doug
Somebody give this chimp a tranquilliser, because clearly he’s hyperventilating as he speaks.
Reminds me of a typical wafer thin skinned, social media influencer, trying to respond to his haters.

Ugh. I just watched the video. And I now I am confident I am making the right choice in not watching Doug Demuro. I struggled to get through his video.
Doug who???
Demoron
Personally, I don’t watch Doug Demuro. Kudos to him and what he does. And making a good living off of it. I just don’t like his style.
I much prefer Scotty, Car Wizard, ChrisFix, EricTheCarGuy, and even Hoovies Garage.

Although I have seen him point out cars u would never want to own like this e60 M5, the car that can pretty much bankrupt u in a heartbeat if u don't know how to maintain it.
