Hey Scotty, I’ve been watching your videos for a while and appreciate all the questions you answer. I tried to get a loan for a Toyota a few years ago. Got denied so I got a Hyundai Accent I didn’t hear you say something bad about them so I got one. It has a “drive mode” and when I press it. A “Sport” light comes on. Is it safe to use? Does it wear the car down quicker? Is there certain times it would be better to use it? I live in Pennsylvania and wasn’t sure if it’s something I should use. The manual doesn’t describe it well.

The sport mode makes the car to drive more aggressive (opposite of the eco mode). Considering the fact that it puts more stress on the drivetrain, I would not use it a lot.

If you have the IVT (CVT), my condolences. In the case of the CVT, it will wear out SIGNIFICANTLY faster.

If it's a regular 6 speed automatic, like what they install on almost all Accents outside of America - then even the smallest transmission is reliable, is typically installed on engines with over 200NM and last for ages, and given the the Accent's biggest gas engine - the 1.6L makes at most only around 150NM, it shouldn't be an issue at all.

Often it just changes the shift points, it'll rev higher before it shifts to a higher gear to give it more pep when you decide to accelerate harder (assuming its automatic). Id leave it off, it'll give you worse mpg.
