Electronic compass not working

I have a 2011 mustang GT with the standard entertainment system that has the compass displayed. A few weeks ago it wouldn't change directions with the car. I put it in calibration mode and followed instructions with no success. It goes between remaining in calibration mode and randomly showing north. I disconnected the battery overnight with no change. I don't have any other issues with the car. I currently have no way for me to check for codes and can't find any answers on Google other than it might be the throttle positioning sensor but I would rather verify before going through the trouble of replacing that. It's just something I want to fix because I've had this car since new and I want to keep everything working.

It's rare that compass modules fail, so most people never think about repairing or replacing them.  A new compass module shouldn't be too expensive (I think they are typically around $25).  This might be one of those times you try just replacing the part (if you can access it) rather than paying an auto electric specialist an hour of shop time to do a diagnostic.  If that doesn't do it, it's probably going to become a major ordeal....

Do you have any magnetic phone holders or electronic accessories in your car?

Well good luck on that one I've never messed with those compasses. I'm sure there's something wrong inside with the system that calibrates it and I don't know anybody has ever even touched those things

No magnetic items in the car. I did some more research and it just seemed logical that the compass is based in the rearview mirror. Ford wouldn't reengineer the compass that displayed in the mirror. They would just move the display to the radio. I unplugged my mirror and it got it out of calibration mode. So now the question is do I replace the mirror. I assume yes. I doubt I can take it apart and fix whatever is wrong. Thank for all the comments.
