Hi!

Hi Scotty, first I would like to thank you for all your informative videos. They have taught me a lot. I have Subaru outback 2017. I know you warned in your video not to get cheap OBD scanner but since  it was my first purchase I did not want to sped $100 for decent tool specially because I did not know in advance how useful it would be for beginner like me. I thought $10 ELM327 would be good enough for start. But I had to learn the hard way that "they don't do much" is not the real reason to avoid them. The real reason is that it causes check engine light (U0073) to turn on and stay on. It even stayed on after removing it and turning car off and on again and even after I tried to turn it on again after few minutes pause. By the morning it was gone. Can you explain what was going on and why it didn't clear check engine light at first but then cleared it by morning? Is this device dangerous for my car? And also warn viewers that not only "they don't do much" but also can cause shameful trip to mechanic.

leave it alone the device is dangerous can't even cause problems but since it went off it's not a permanent problem throw that in the garbage can now

When the vehicle computer detects a serious problem on the data bus, it will shut it down to protect itself.

If you click on the "Tools" link on the top of this page, you will see some scan tools that Scotty has recommended.

Thank you!

What do you exactly mean by:

device is dangerous can't even cause problems

English is not my first language but I understand that it is dangerous but then the 2nd half says this device can't cause problems. How is it dangerous if it can't cause (produce,make/generate) problems?

Btw does anyone here know any good scanner that is sold in europe?

I'm sure it's just a typo. The device CAN cause problems.
