1997 Ford Ranger Splash 105,527 miles, automatic, codes P0174, P0171, P1121
Hi Scotty, my 97 Ford Ranger Splash starts up and runs fine on the road, no leaks either. But the main problem is the engine light stays on and sometimes when I backup into my driveway the engine dies and I need to restart, and yes it does startup easily with no idling problems. Also, one time I made an abrupt stop at the stop light and the engine died and I couldn't get back into park to startup for about 5 mins after trying to turn the steering wheel to get back into gear.
The only other minor problem is that when I go to the gas station, the gas pump stops unless I angle the gas nozzle up and hold it the whole time I gas up.
I checked the mass airflow sensor, air filter, replaced vapor canister purge solenoid, charcoal canister, pcv valve, and idle air control valve but the codes still show up.
Will a new gas fuel tank pressure sensor fix this? Could a faulty inertia switch cause this? I'm just finding out about those as possible causes. Or the cam shaft position sensor? I just saw your cam shaft video.
PLEASE HELP!!!
Does the transmission shift okay? I had a '93 Ranger Splash automatic (Loved that little truck!). The tranny started giving me issues, but with over 3x the amount of miles. Other than that, I had no issues similar to what you describe
For the codes, start with search for any vacuum/intake air leaks -
