engine noise

I have a 2014 Honda CRV with 65,000 miles. Sometimes when I turn the ignition on I hear a screeching, grinding noise from the engine compartment that only lasts a few seconds. This usually happens after a lot of rain or it's really cold outside. Do you know what this is and should I be concerned about it? Thanks.

Have the same issue. Its likely a VTC actuator noise. Replaced the bad actuator which in turn stretched the chain. but the problem is back 6 months later. Cost me 1800 Canadian. Google VTC actuator TSB. Check youtube. Its a bad generation for hondas.

Bad/loose belt most likely (grinding?).  Inspect them for cracks and replace.

On cold starts and for a few seconds its a bad belt probably check it if its lose or cracked as Mr. HillBilly said

I have experienced frost or water on the pulleys first start. this caused screech noise and would go away fairly quickly with the heat of the engine. Next cold frosty or rainy morning double check your pulleys before start up. There also could be some extra drag on one of the pulleys. This would cause extra friction. In this case removal of the belt to see if any of the pulleys are loose or turn with extra effort would determine your source.
