Hello I just bought a 1995 Toyota 4Runner 3.0L with 180000miles automatic. The engine idles oddly, unevenly and doesn’t accelerate much. Keeps at high revs ind 2nd or 3rd. Also when changing from drive to reverse it shuts off sometimes. Changed the spark plugs, oil, oil filter, air filter, and rear differential but nothing. Please help.

well you should have checked it out with a mechanic before you bought it cuz there you could have serious problems with anything. So start with the guy like me a good mechanic who knows Toyotas to run complete test with the scan tool and road test it and then tell you what he thinks pray it simple stuff like ignition coils fuel filter air filter cleaning fuel injectors and not anything serious like a blowing head gasket or transmission problems

Thank you so much Scotty! big fan here in Puerto Rico. I took it to a trusty mechanic. He said it might be a cylinder not working properly. Only paid $1000 and other than the engine everything else was in perfect condition(interiors, frame, and the electronics). I’m ok with swapping for the 3.4L if need be.
