Ethanol gas

Hello Scotty. I have a 1996 mercury grand marquis that was given to me several years ago after my grandfather passed away.  It has the 4.6 engine and now has 75k miles. I don’t drive it much maybe 2000 miles a year. I always try to stick with no ethanol gas cause of its age. Is this wise or a waste?

No, because the ethanol will separate after a few months (it's called "phase separation") and by absorbing water, separates out from the gas and travels to the bottom of the tank, which creates a rust problem in the tank. If any of it gets pumped into the engine, well, that's no good either (electrolysis).

The alternative is to put some fuel stabilizer into the tank, enough to prevent phase separation. It's whuy I do so my lawn mower and chainsaw if they're not going to be used, let's say, over a winter.
