Excessive oil burning 2017 Kia Sorento LX Turbo GDI

Hi Scotty! A big fan of your YouTube channel:) I have a 2017 Kia Sorento LX Turbo with 93500kms on it. Since the last three oil changes, in about 2800kms after service the oil is burned completely. No sign of oil on the dipstick and have to top off oil until the next service date! Local mechanics are hesitating to touch the engine saying it needs a new engine whereas the dealer says they have to complete an oil consumption test before writing to Kia Canada for a solution. Is it risky continuing to use this vehicle and is it time to look for another ride? Thank you and look forward to receiving your valuable advice. Darun

What’s that red flag that’d indicate that the engine is no more good for use?

Maybe when it stops running, or is running so badly it's not safe to drive?

The dealer should do an oil consumption test on the engine and if it uses more than their specification they should fix or replace it. (According to Hyundai/Kia using a quart per 1000 miles is "normal", so you'd need to be using more than that.) They may well "fix" it by installing a junkyard engine.

The problem is so bad on those things that it has prompted a class action lawsuit.

and is it time to look for another ride?

Yes.  Never ever buy another Hyundai Motor Group product again.

Those kids are just positive crap and they burn oil pray that the dealer will replace the engine. If they won't I would just unload the pile of crap and just keep adding oil as it burns they can still run quite some time

Did you mean "Those Kia's" as apposed to "Those kids"? I like my two Kia's. There easy to find in mall parking lots. I just look for the smoke off in the distance.

@MrBob
Are their names, Goodness and Gracious? 😉

At least someone has a sense of humor.

They will check if it burns more than a quart every oil change, which it sounds like yours does. After they put in a new engine, get rid of it!

Thank you, Scotty! What’s that red flag that’d indicate that the engine is no more good for use? (If in case the dealer refuses to replace the engine). Thanks again:)
