You're not going to get much of a good truck for that price range. Do you NEED a truck, or is it what you WANT?
You could always go with a Corolla or Civic and just drive that until you have additional money saved. I really would hesitate to tell anyone to buy a truck that old, especially if it is going to be your only transportation.

Those are quite old. Try to get something newer.

Update: For around 2000-3000 (in some places) you could find 04-08 Corollas manual transmission so check if you can find stuff like that. Or you could try an older Honda Accord with a manual transmission.
